Celebrating the life of
Jill D. Haynie
July 30, 1960 - September 06, 2014
TYBEE ISLAND – Jill D. Haynie passed away September 6, 2014.
Born in Savannah on July 30, 1960 she attended Windsor Forest High School and The Savannah College of Art and Design. Throughout the years she lived and worked in many places but always returned, not to Savannah, but to her beloved Tybee Island where she spent about fifteen years of her life. For the past six years she ran a successful, small, home based business at the beach.
Survivors include her mother, Linda Mincey Herbst, brother, Craig A. Haynie and sister-in-law Kimberlee, two nieces, Gabrielle Haynie and Savannah Haynie, a nephew, Robert “Augie” Haynie, aunts and uncles, cousins, extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father Emmett A. “Buddy” Haynie and maternal grandmother Gertrude T. Mincey.
Jill will surely be remembered for her incredible courage and tenacity as she battled uphill against cancer for the past three years. When diagnosed many did not know how sick she was- her choice – she wanted business as usual and stayed active up until June of this year. She loved to travel and was able to make several memorable trips even during her illness. She was very social, never meeting a stranger, and was always available for “happy hour” with her beach family. Her smile, outgoing spirit, love, and laughter will always be remembered by those who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. preceded by a visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m., at Fox & Weeks Islands Chapel, 4605 Highway 80 East, Whitemarsh Island.
In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Islands Feral Cat Project, 28 Twelve Oaks, Savannah, GA 31410, Save-A-Life, Inc., P.O. Box 16730, Savannah, GA 31416, or St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundation – Survivorship Fund, 5353 Reynolds St., Savannah, GA 31405.

Jill was my friend for 38 years. When I was a teenager, I looked up to her. As an adult, I was in awe of her. Jill was a true "one of a kind". There will never be anyone like her. Bye for now my friend.

Linda, Please accept my deepest sympathy. Jill was one of the bravest women I know. She fought with everything in her till the end. She will be missed by many. I believe she is now at peace, no longer suffering and she and Buddy will now be together to party in heaven.

Jill has been a life-long friend. We grew up in Windsor Forest across the street from each other. Her heart was as pure as her father's. I will miss her laugh and always good mood.
